120/240 V power distribution will be here to stay for a very long time because snow covered solar panels and battery aH limitations won’t keep the house warm nor heat the water / dry the clothes in the winter. All electronic…

Just some trivia about the “little” LED lights that stay on when unit (Cable box, TV, DVD players, Alarm clocks, etc.) is NOT being used….these lights use approximately 10 % of our country’s energy FYI Somebody…

All said, this is a very interesting concept to explore.  The wire size, and especially all the connection points (wire nuts & the like) are the Achilles Heal with low voltage more so than line voltage.  It’s worth some…

Interesting article. However, putting the technical considerations aside. We did some analysis in Australia which showed the power wall didn’t lead to cheaper electricity.…

Some things simply require a lot of power, and that’s where the prissy argument of “my European service is only 25A” falls through. Which (assuming 240V) by my calculations is 6kW. You must be using gas/oil/steam for at…

RE voltage drop 5v drop is negligible? When you are wasting more than 10% on distribution, you’re negating a good portion of the gains from switching to LV DC in the first place. By the time you drop the voltage, you only…

Oh, and one other thing.  No, you were NOT designing electronics before I or many others were born.  Only 45 years as an electronic design engineer?  I was designing when you were in middle school.  And what was working…

@Grayson, you’re assuming that the device actually only requires 5V.  That’s not a valid assumption. And even if it did require 5V - what if it needed 500W?  That would be 100A at 5V.  You wold require one…

The author understands electricity pretty damn good.  He was designing electronics before you (meaning anyone reading this article) were born, having worked as a electronics design engineer for 45+ years.  He can design an IC, a…

RE voltage drop..balony..48 volts is there to allow a large voltage drop.  Devices that attach to 48V will regulate down to what they need.  5V drop is negligible.
