SnapAV Wirepath Surveillance DVRs Stream Live Video to Control4

05/17 09:16 AM – SnapAV has upgraded all its Wirepath Surveillance DVRs to stream live video natively to Control4. Upgraded software makes possible streaming video to display all connected cameras within the Control4 environment, including iOS apps. Other enhanced functionality includes IP control of DVR functions, including playback, and motion detection setup from Internet Explorer. According to SnapAV senior vice president Adam Levy, the software completely eliminates the need for costly and often time-consuming addition of encoders or IP cameras for surveillance integration into…

Dish Network Auto Hop Skips Commercials on Hopper DVR
05/11 09:12 AM – Dish Network unveiled at CES 2012 the Hopper whole-house high definition DVR that allows users to record all primetime network shows (ABC, CBS, FOX and NBC) with one press of a button (the feature is called “Primetime Anytime”) and watch them on up to 4 TVs around a home. 2Gig Adds Local DVR to Self-Contained Security Panels

04/02 09:16 AM – 2Gig, which sells more than 300,000 self-contained security panels per year, is adding a unique feature to its Go!Control systems: built-in DVR capabilities. The company demonstrated the solution during the International Security Conference (ISC West 2012) in Las Vegas. A self-contained security panel is one that includes the security processor, keypad/interface, sensor hub, back-up battery and (usually) built-in GSM module for cellular communications with the central station. Normally, all that is needed is a power source. In addition, most self-contained…

PlayLater Online DVR: Download Netflix, Hulu, Other Video to PC

03/19 10:43 AM – If you can already stream a TV show or movie online, you can now watch it offline with PlayLater software, which records content directly to your PC hard drive. The new software comes from the makers of PlayOn streaming software, which “place-shifts” your streaming content to the TV or mobile devices. PlayLater, on the other hand, “time-shifts” the content, so anything you might stream from Netflix, Hulu or any other popular service can be watched sans Internet. The company suggests…

TiVo’s New Extender: What’s Not to Love?

02/29 09:15 AM – TiVo is introducing an extender box that enables users to stream content from a centralized DVR to multiple TV locations. Don’t they already have such a thing? Sorta kinda. The TiVo Preview, introduced last year, enables whole-house content sharing, but it’s not a retail product. Rather, it is a tuner with CableCard support which is distributed through the cable companies and other carriers, who get to charge you for each TV set. The forthcoming IP-enabled set-top box, on the other…
